Chapter 3: My Fantasy
(Yeah, I’ve actually dreamed this. Don’t
laugh.)
“Hey, can you help me with something?” Aeryn’s voice broke into his thoughts, and he
was alarmed by the anxiety it held.
“Sure… what’s up?”
“Well, there’s this guy I like, and I can’t tell if he likes
me back…”
He was only
half-listening, and he instead focused on her face. Her aqua eyes were shadowed with worry, and
her forehead was creased into a frown.
“And then during chemistry the other day…” her voice faded and
out of the back round, and his eyes moved to her lips, coloured a smooth, rosy
pink. He admired the way she could make
the colour look natural- only the slightest shimmer showed she was wearing lip gloss.
They were on the stairs now, heading down three flights
towards her Humanities class.
“He flirts with me, like, all the time, but since he does
the same to other girls so I can never tell if he likes me or someone else…”
Second flight.
“And he has gorgeous eyes, a beautiful blue with orange
around the iris...”
That got his attention.
His eyes were kinda like that, weren’t they? Yeah, they definitely were. Wait a minute- could she be talking about him?
He racked his brain to what she had said earlier. “And in chemistry class, he was staring at me…
I really didn’t know what to do, so I just ignored it. I mean, he sits across the room from me, so I
couldn’t be sure…”
He had been staring at her for the past week. (Not in a stalker way! In a… I wanna kiss you right now way. At
least, he had hoped…)
First flight.
Yup. She was talking
about him. But why… she was talking to
him to learn how to deal with… him? Did
that even make sense? URGHHH! Girl logic was so confusing. Unless- of course! She was trying to get a
reaction from him. WAIT! Backtrack. SHE LIKED HIM?!
“And I wanted to know if you could tell me what he might do
if I asked him out…”
They were in front of her class now, and she was hovering
timidly in the doorway, waiting for a reaction.
“I think I have an idea of what he would say.” He kept his face void of emotion.
“Really?” Her face
shone with a mixture of emotions.
And then he did something reckless. Something without thinking.
He grabbed her hand, pulled her towards him, and kissed her
gently on the lips.
Her eyes widened, and her lips twitched at his touch- but he
was too absorbed to notice any of that.
Her lips tasted like pomegranate, and her hair smelled like
a curious mix of lavender, peppermint, and another sweet smell that he couldn’t
decipher. Her skin was so soft… it only
vaguely registered in the back of his mind that Aeryn’s entire Humanities
class, including the teacher, was watching them.
Finally, she broke the embrace, and they both stood there,
breathing heavily and wondering what the heck had just happened.
She blushed furiously, and when she spoke, her voice was an
octave higher than usual.
“Well, I’ll, um… see you around!” She rushed into the room, where her
classmates were waiting with open mouths.
He twirled around, hand on the back of his head, and
chuckled embarrassedly.
Then, a smile
growing on his face, he headed to his next class.
This was going to
be an interesting day.
